Position: Admissions Specialist I

Overview

This is a highly responsible, paraprofessional position within the Office of Admissions and Dual Enrollment. The Admissions Specialist serves as a key point of contact for prospective and incoming students, providing support throughout the admissions process. The specialist ensures timely and accurate data entry, document management, and communication, while delivering exceptional customer service in support of the college’s enrollment goals. This position requires the utilization of specialized software as well as adherence to state laws, rules, and policies and procedures governing college admission.

Duties include coordinating and carrying to completion a variety of tasks not requiring the direct attention of the administrator/professional.

Responsibilities
  • Assists prospective students with the admissions and residency process.
  • Reviews and processes admissions applications, ensuring completeness and accuracy of required documentation.
  • Processes incoming student credentials, i.e., evaluation of high school diploma.
  • Communicate with applicants regarding missing or incomplete application materials and deadlines.
  • Maintains and updates student records in the Student Information System.
  • Interprets and administers policies as directed.
  • Acts for administrator/professional in matters where authority has been delegated.
  • Provides general information to students.
  • Accesses, inputs and retrieves information and data from a computer.
  • Generate standard reports and perform quality assurance checks on applicant data.
  • Assists in coordination of administrative/professional duties.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge, Abilities and

    Skills:

    Proficient in accurate and efficient data entry, with the ability to input complex and varied information into databases with attention to detail and consistency.
  • Skilled in using computers, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and database systems.
  • Knowledge of administrative office procedures and basic management principles.
  • Knowledge of State laws, rules and regulations governing college admission.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills with a student-centered approach.
  • Ability to effectively and appropriately relate to students, other college personnel and community members.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience
  • Associate degree in appropriate area plus two years of related experience; or High school diploma plus four years related experience. A high school equivalency diploma from the State Department of Education may be substituted for high school graduation. Additional education may substitute on a year for year basis for required experience in related area.
Essential Physical Skills
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Use of fingers.
Environmental Conditions
  • Works inside in an office environment.
