About This Role

A Journeyman Lineman at Irby Construction Company will have received training from an approved forty‑two (42) month apprenticeship program or a certified testing program, or must have five (5) years of continuous substation/line construction/maintenance experience. Journeyman Linemen will have a working knowledge of all aspects of substation/line work and will be capable and expert to work independently if required. The distribution journeyman openings will be located from New Orleans to Lake Charles, Louisiana.

What

You’ll Do
  • Work in the line industry as an apprentice lineman for at least 4 years.
  • Conduct a Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) as required.
  • Perform work safely on energized and de‑energized distribution systems.
  • Install and remove cover‑up material safely.
  • String, sag, and dead‑end conductors.
  • Climb poles and towers using fall protection systems.
  • Troubleshoot problems on distribution systems.
  • Safely dig holes in the presence of underground utilities.
  • Set or replace poles (wooden, steel, concrete) on an energized distribution system.
  • Perform a re‑conductor job safely.
  • Understand minimum approach distances.
  • Inspect rubber goods, cover materials, and PPE properly.
  • Operate a digger derrick and bucket truck safely.
  • Maintain company equipment and trucks in safe working order.
  • Install and remove mechanical jumpers safely.
  • Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
  • Apply safe heavy‑lifting and rigging procedures.
What You’ll Bring
  • May need to relocate as work requirements demand.
  • May require a valid class "B" commercial driver’s license.
  • May need to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Operate conveyance machinery equipped with tools and materials to and from job sites.
  • Adhere to all Company Safety and Health Policies.
  • Work in storm restoration operations to rebuild and/or repair damaged power systems.
  • Attend training classes or seminars to gather knowledge of new processes, safety regulations, and refresher training.
  • Work with limited supervision.
  • Lift and handle materials up to 60 pounds unassisted.
  • Climb wooden poles and towers.
  • Walk and work across uneven terrain.
  • Climb on and off large trucks and equipment.
  • Exposed to hot and cold weather conditions.
