Northrop Grumman is seeking a SCA Aircraft Mechanic 1 (Avionics) to support the maintenance program for the E-6B aircraft in Lake Charles, LA. This is a Service Contract Act position that is contingent upon funding and is available for any shift.
Primary Duties- Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems, components, and aircraft accessories.
- Perform preflight, thru‑flight, and post‑flight maintenance inspections.
- Read and interpret manufacturer and airline maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, and engineering data to determine feasibility and method of repair or replacement.
- Enter maintenance records describing the work performed and verify that the work was completed satisfactorily.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft electrical systems, structures, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti‑icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation/heating systems.
- Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft functional components, including rigging, surface controls, plumbing, and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and test equipment.
- Remove and reinstall engines, using hoist or forklift, disassembling and inspecting parts for wear, cracks, and other defects, and repairing or replacing defective engine parts.
- Perform miscellaneous service duties such as flushing crankcase, cleaning filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
- Conduct 100‑hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections on reciprocating and jet engines.
- Inspect turbine blades and engine components for cracks, distortion, corrosion, and damage; use testing equipment to locate sources of malfunction.
- Participate in jacking, towing, and line‑station servicing of aircraft.
- Carry out short‑overhaul repairs and keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Ability to work in an approved environment during specified hours.
- Physical aptitude for travel and relocation, and ability to wear respirator or other safety gear.
- Comfortable working in environments that may cause phobias due to height or closed spaces.
- A&P License.
- Prior E‑6B/707 aircraft experience.
- Ability to obtain/maintain a Secret DoD clearance.
- Experience performing major aircraft modifications.
