General Purpose

The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership who manages a specific area of the Store and oversees general operations, acting as Manager on Duty when needed. Responsibilities include opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment, ensuring merchandise presentation standards, and performing Company operational processes.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
  • Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything they do.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment, correcting or reporting unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Secure the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS daily function checks, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.
  • Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
  • Take responsibility for customer safety, accident prevention, accident reporting, and emergency procedures.
  • Test all fire alarm systems on schedule and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
  • Treat all customers, Associates, and other leaders with respect.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
  • Recognize Associates using Company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the Company Dress Code and ensure all Associates adhere to it.
  • Keep all areas of the Store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
  • Take responsibility for daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
  • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet Company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up.
  • Receive merchandise truck when needed.
  • Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
  • Handle all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (e.g., signs, supplies).
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all Stockrooms.
  • Assist in delivering and placing merchandise on the sales floor after processing.
  • Ensure back‑stock is secured and processed per Company policy.
  • Merchandise each department, including the back stock.
  • Reduce loss due to damage.
  • Meet monthly presentation guidelines in the assigned area.
  • Handle floor moves and signing, including promotional signing as needed.
  • Perform re‑wraps as needed.
Loss Prevention
  • Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong customer service presence on the sales floor.
  • Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions with Associates and Customers, safeguarding confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.
  • Ensure the Public View Monitor (PVM) system is maintained properly.
  • Conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
  • Execute Company Best Practices to maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
Front End Supervision and Operations
  • Execute Company Best Practices to maximize productivity.
  • Maintain pace, energy, and presence at the Front End, managing the line to expedite customer wait time.
  • Train and coach Associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other Front End procedures to meet service and productivity standards.
  • Control Retail Associates’ break schedule for backups, lunches, and breaks.
  • Ensure all equipment is working properly.
  • Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the Front End area.
  • Ensure go‑backs are expedited, properly scanned, security tagged, and ticketed.
  • Teach all Associates the “Scan and Bag” best practice.
