About the RoleThe Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all aspects of store operations, upholding Ross’ standards of customer service, merchandising, and employee development. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager leads the store’s day‑to‑day operations.
Essential Functions- Lead and enforce Company best practices to maximize productivity.
- Analyze store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall performance.
- Manage safety, security, and loss‑prevention practices, including training associates and maintaining emergency procedures.
- Supervise customer‑service and merchandising programs, ensuring a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment.
- Recruit, hire, train, and develop non‑exempt associates, addressing personnel policies and associate‑relations issues.
- Assist in continuous expense control and budget adherence, particularly payroll hours.
- Maintain compliance with all state, local, and federal regulations.
- Represent and promote the Ross brand, modeling professional and adherence to the Company Dress Code.
- Assist in annual inventory processes and monitor loss‑prevention metrics.
- Manages work processes efficiently.
- Demonstrates business acumen and strategic planning.
- Builds talent, collaborates, and leads by example.
- Communicates effectively and ensures accountability.
- At least two years of store or assistant store manager experience in a retail environment.
- Strong supervisory, motivational, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and exercise independent judgment.
- High quality customer‑service orientation.
- Fluency in English.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
- Basic mathematical proficiency for retail transactions.
- Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.
- Must spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
- Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
- Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
- Use of janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies as needed.
- Some assignments may require additional qualifications.
- Directly supervise all non‑exempt associates.
