Clinical Document Improvement Specialist RN (Full Time)

Join Lake Charles Memorial Health System as a Clinical Document Improvement Specialist RN – a full‑time position focused on ensuring accurate and complete medical record documentation to support coding, reimbursement, and quality metrics.

Responsibilities
  • Review inpatient admissions to identify opportunities to improve documentation quality.
  • Comply with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • Initiate physician interaction for clarification of ambiguous or conflicting documentation and guarantee it is recorded per policy.
  • Maintain positive, open communication with physicians, the care team, and coding staff.
  • Participate in professional development workshops, conferences, and in‑services.
  • Educate on the importance of complete documentation for coding quality, DRG assignment, physician profiling, case mix index, and expected mortality rates.
  • Stay current with changes in coding guidelines, compliance, reimbursement, and relevant regulatory updates.
  • Understand the flow of health information from documentation to coding, billing, and data reporting.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved nursing school.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Current nursing license in Louisiana or a multi‑state compact license.
  • Maintain required hours of in‑service per year for continuing education.
  • CPR certification.
  • Proficiency in English reading, writing, and speaking.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
  • Variety of physical activities, including moving within and outside hospital properties for long periods.
  • Responsive to emergency and non‑emergency situations.
  • May assist in controlling disorderly or combative patients.
  • Communicate accurately with patients, families, peers, and medical personnel.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable performance of essential functions.
