Overview
Perform disassembly and assembly of control valves and regulators, perform inspections, calibration, testing, and quality control documentation in compliance with customer requirements and factory standards. Roles involve handling a variety of valve types, actuators, regulators, and associated components; requires travel as needed and adherence to Total Customer Commitment (TCC) standards.
Essential Duties- Perform disassembly and assembly of control valves including:
- Read, interpret, and respond accordingly to sales order and customer data sheet information
- Identify various valves and accessories
- Perform visual inspections during disassembly and reassembly to ensure components are correct and in good condition
- Identify and initiate changes in the sales order system to match the customer data sheet
- Document with digital pictures and transfer into the ERP system to track assemblies
- Safely disassemble valves and parts including various types:
- Sliding stem valves
- Rotary ball valves
- Rotary butterfly valves
- High performance rotary butterfly valves
- Bolted bonnet gate, globe, and check valves
- Soft-seated ball valves
- Various pressure globe and rotary valves
- Safely disassemble actuators and parts including:
- Double acting pneumatic sliding stem piston actuators
- Double acting pneumatic rotary piston actuators
- Single acting sliding stem spring and diaphragm actuators
- Single acting rotary spring and diaphragm actuators
- Evaluate parts and maintain material awareness:
- Mark parts correctly and maintain organization and segregation
- Perform chemical solvent cleaning when needed
- Inspect parts for critical dimension requirements and ensure compliance
- Identify and utilize manufacturers’ nomenclature (literature, IOM, criteria, part and model numbers)
- Identify materials using PMI, alloy analyzer, materials markings, and standards, including report completion
- Complete all quality control sheets with date, sign-off, status, etc.
- Understand special assembly requirements and maintain compliance with factory and customer requirements
- Safely and accurately perform machining processes as needed:
- Drill press or pneumatic tools for drilling and pinning stems
- Hand grinder for polishing flange and sealing surfaces
- Safely assemble control valves from repair order instructions, customer test reports/spec sheets, and OEM IOM manuals; calibrate positioners and controllers
- Valve types include:
- Rotary ball valves
- Rotary butterfly valves
- Soft-seated ball valves
- Install stem packing; attach actuators to valves; set valve travel and bench set on actuators
- Tube positioners and controllers to actuators and accessories
- Test control valves according to applicable codes and manufacturer manuals using compressed air, water, and nitrogen; complete test reports with required detail
- Calibrate and troubleshoot pneumatic and digital positioners/controllers per specs (examples include Fisher products and DVC positioners/controllers)
- Perform calibration procedures for Valvelink signatures on digital positioners
- Generate and analyze reports/graphs related to valve signatures and tests; read/test using Valvelink software
- Troubleshoot and remedy issues during valve scan process
- Complete final inspection with testing and reports for the assembly
- Operate software and handheld communicators (e.g., 475 and TREX)
- Disassembly and assembly of regulators and relief valves (direct and pilot operated)
- Read and respond to sales orders and customer data sheets; explain purpose and function of regulators and relief valves
- Adjust spring, orifice, and body changes; test and set regulators/relief valves to desired set points
- Complete quality control sheets and final inspection findings
- Uphold JHC TCC standards; support colleagues; build relationships; travel as required; maintain regular attendance
- High School or Equivalent
- A minimum of 7 years in the valve repair industry preferred
- TWIC, OSHA Safety, Security Passport
- Valid State-issued driver’s license
- Knowledge of machinery fundamentals including control valves, pneumatic safety systems, and rotary valves
- Ability to read and understand customer data sheets for final assembly of control valves and regulators
- Knowledge of industrial and residential regulators; oil and gas equipment and processes
- Familiarity with digital positioners/controllers used on control valves (e.g., Emerson Fisher products)
- Ability to use basic hand and pneumatic tools safely
- Experience in self-directed field/shop environment; tubing experience preferred
- Experience reading/measuring with torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.
- Ability to assist Level I/II technicians; read/record measurements
- No supervisory responsibilities
