Northrop Grumman is seeking experienced aircraft mechanics to support a maintenance program in Lake Charles, LA. The Navy E-6 is an airborne command post and communications relay based on the Boeing 707 platform, used for long-range patrols along the U.S. border and in source and transit zone countries. The platform, now modified to the E-6B standard, conveys instructions from the National Command Authority to fleet ballistic missile submarines (TACAMO).

This position is a Service Contract Act role with potential contingencies depending on funding.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft systems, components and engines of varying complexity
  • Reads and interprets maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repair or replacement
  • Possesses knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair
  • Understands aircraft tools and equipment (e.g., test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers)
  • Provides technical support to mechanical engineers and customers
  • Reads and interprets schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, wiring diagrams, and other technical instructions
DoD Skill Bridge Eligibility
  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty
  • Is within 12 months of separation or retirement
  • Will receive an honorable discharge
  • Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
  • Has written authorization and approval to participate in DoD Skill Bridge prior to internship start
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and a minimum 10 years of relevant experience
  • Able to perform work in an approved environment during specified work hours
  • Able to travel as needed
  • Ability to be subject to a variety of physical conditions
  • Able to wear respirator or other safety gear
  • Ability to work in heights or confined spaces
  • Meets DoD Skill Bridge qualifications per DoDI 1322.29
Preferred Qualifications
  • A&P License
  • Prior E-6B/707 experience
  • Able to obtain/maintain a Secret DoD clearance

Compensation and Benefits

Primary Level Salary Range: $36.95 per hour. The salary range is a general guideline; actual offers consider scope, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, and market conditions. Overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses may apply depending on the position. Northrop Grumman offers benefits including health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, paid holidays, and PTO for vacation and/or personal business.
