Building Maintenance, Groundskeeper
This is the first of two levels in the Labor series. Incumbents perform manual labor related to the maintenance of Parish roads, grounds and buildings.
Responsibilities- Maintain facilities and grounds (mowing, weed eating, trimming trees, picking up litter, sweeping, mopping, shoveling, raking, pouring asphalt, flagging traffic).
- Operate and maintain a variety of vehicles, equipment and tools; complete routine maintenance on equipment, tools, and vehicles.
- Perform minor building maintenance duties such as changing light bulbs, moving furniture and other non‑technical duties.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.
Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing RequirementsValid Driver's License as per State law or requirement.

- Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
- Very Heavy Work:
Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. - Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; moving traffic; high, precarious places; and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
An employee in this position will be supplied with a uniform, provided by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. The employee is responsible for abiding by the Police Jury's Uniform Agreement.
