Job Summary
The Lead Piping Superintendent is responsible for supervising and directing operations within the piping discipline. Supervises and directs piping craft, subordinate supervisors, and others as assigned. Ensures construction performance follows specifications and remains on schedule and within budget. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including potential night shifts, split shifts, or day shifts.
Major Responsibilities- Oversee A/G and U/G piping, pipe supports, hangers and welding operations.
- Coordinate with Direct Hire/Subcontractor Piping Superintendents, General Foreman and Foreman to determine manpower requirements and schedule work.
- Prepare material requisitions for tools and consumables; supervise Direct Hire/Subcontract personnel and craft in construction activities.
- Prepare reports and forecasts, including job manpower and expenditures forecasts.
- Ensure compliance with Bechtel and project safety codes, procedures, and standards within the assigned area.
- Interface with Piping Field Engineer and other disciplines; ensure current revision documents are utilized for installation.
- Conduct personnel evaluations of subordinates and coordinate activities with clients’ resident representatives as instructed by construction management.
- Assist management in planning, scheduling development and quantity tracking; support subcontract preparation of schedules.
- Conduct field mobilization activities and ensure knowledge of supervisory functions for field activities.
- Maintain awareness of safety, quality, and productivity requirements on site.
Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10–13 years of relevant experience, or 14–17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills- Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead teams effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations.
- Heavy industrial direct-hire construction experience in a supervisory role related to piping work.
- Experience in oil, gas, refinery, petrochemical, minerals processing, or power generation construction.
- Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; working knowledge of industry codes and standards.
- Experience in developing pneumatic and hydrotest packages and witnessing tests.
- Knowledge of Bechtel work processes and project management tools (BSAPs such as Setroute, Unifier, Aconex, DSCS, PTR, Agile, Navisworks, etc.).
- Ability to perform field inspections in challenging environments (extensive walking, climbing, working at heights, uneven surfaces, and confined spaces).
- Physical ability to walk into/egress from the project and to lift as required; use of PPE (harness, life vest, etc.).
Work requires the physical ability to perform field inspections in challenging conditions. Some lifting may be required. Must be able to walk into and out of the project and use appropriate PPE as required.
