Position Summary
The Respiratory Therapist III performs all respiratory care modalities in the palliative and curative treatment of pulmonary disease and disorders. In addition, this incumbent performs bedside diagnostic tests to evaluate the extent of pulmonary dysfunction. Furthermore, this position manages and monitors mechanical ventilation and artificial airways, assists with fiber optic bronchoscopy (FOB) procedures. The Respiratory Therapist III maintains a working knowledge of standard operating procedures, including standards on accurate and timely documentation, standard work, and department and hospital policy and procedure.
The position is expected to maintain a knowledge of specialized equipment and related computerized equipment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
- Performs all respiratory care modalities in the treatment of pulmonary disease and disorders in line with all department policies and procedures.
- Documents and performs charge capture in a timely manner to support the continuum of patient care.
- Assesses respiratory care patients and collaborates patient care needs with other providers to promote positive patient outcomes across the continuum of care.
- Communicates patient care needs with Physicians and other providers to ensure healthcare team is providing the best patient care experience.
- Attends and actively participates in all in-services and completes all competencies in a timely manner.
- Ability to be at work and be on time.

- Ability to prioritize and multitask.

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Respiratory Therapist working in an adult critical care unit (e.g. Intensive Care Unit, Extended Care Unit or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)
- Experience with bedside diagnostic testing, respiratory assessment, and advanced modes of mechanical ventilation.
- This position requires experience and training in adult critical care, preceptor, and training in at least two (2) of the following areas:
- Pulmonary Lab
- Intubation
- Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)
- Fiber optic Bronchoscopy
- Bedside spirometry
- NICU
- Relief Supervision
- High Altitude Simulation Testing (HAST)
- Cardio-Exercise Challenge Testing
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- Current California license from Respiratory Care Board (RCP)
- RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Adult Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) only needed if working in NICU
