Medical Assistant
Salary Range: $21.44 - $33.16/hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.
Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for maintaining a professional environment and fostering a collaborative relationship with patients and physicians. The MA assists with non-clinical tasks to ensure smooth patient access and flow, including scheduling follow-up visits, imaging, lab work, and preparing chart elements. The role also involves managing pre-authorization processes and acting as a liaison between providers and patients. The Medical Assistant works with staff to ensure all records are received and testing is completed prior to appointments or surgeries.
Additionally, the MA provides updates on timing and status of tasks impacting patient health, testing, and treatment options, ensuring continuous communication within Hoag and with referring physicians.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of a Medical Assistant program or one year of previous medical back-office experience, preferably in an acute healthcare setting.
- Basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
Preferred:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
- At least one year of previous medical back-office experience, preferably in an acute healthcare setting.
- Working knowledge of EPIC or other EMR systems.
- Qualified bilingual or multilingual candidates.
Required:
- Current BLS Certification.
Preferred:
- Medical Assistant Certification.
- CPR certification (willing to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Current Limited Phlebotomy Certification.
