Job SummaryThe occupational therapist assesses, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitative programs that help restore or improve functioning in daily living, mobility, cognition, strength, coordination, and range of motion for patients with disease or injury. Services are delivered across the continuum, cost‑conscious, quality focused, and customer oriented, in compliance with all regulatory standards.
Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions Treatment Planning and Provision of Care- Implement the occupational therapy treatment plan.
- Select appropriate treatment activities to progress patients toward goals.
- Revise goals and plan of care with patient/family input.
- Provide ongoing patient/family education and training.
- Provide discharge instructions, follow‑up, and referral to community resources as appropriate.
- Act as a referral source for staff, families, physicians on services and equipment related to rehabilitation.
- Collaborate with physicians to establish and evaluate treatment programs, goals, and discharge plans related to occupational therapy needs.
- Establish plans of care with patients and/or family members.
- Establish realistic discharge plans incorporating patient and/or family member goals.
- Document evaluations and plans of care per departmental guidelines.
- Document each treatment session per departmental protocols.
- Complete and submit family education, discharge, and other required documentation within facility and program guidelines.
- Adhere to ethical business practices and highest standards of integrity.
- Embrace diversity and work collaboratively.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Maintain attendance and punctuality per system policy.
- Follow departmental dress code and display appropriately.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, in‑services, and improvement activities.
- Organize workload to complete responsibilities timely.
- Utilize materials and equipment safely and cost‑effectively.
- Observe infection prevention precautions.
- Lead the industry via vision, technology, innovation, and customer service.
- Make a difference in the lives of employees and patients.
- Apply AIDET principles in all patient interactions.
- Encourage a positive environment and experience for coworkers and patients.
- Demonstrate service recovery knowledge and implementation.
- Participate in professional development and mandatory education activities.
- Complete core and annual competencies per departmental timelines.
- Maintain licensure with all required educational requirements; surgery optional if desired.
- Participate in orientation and training of new employees.
- Complete all mandatory hospital and system requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
RequiredMinimum Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
- OT – Occupational Therapist
- BLS – Basic Life Support (or ARC‑BLS or BLS‑I)
Effective communication, customer‑service focus, teamwork, and basic computer skills.
