American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Major Trauma Med/Surg position requiring neuro surgery experience and ortho trauma skills, working night shifts on a 13-week contract.
Details- Major trauma inpatient unit within a hospital setting
- Patient population includes multi-trauma, seizure, GSW, falls, TBI, stroke, sepsis, psych, epidural hematomas/hemorrhage, cerebral edema, encephalopathy, and ortho-related trauma (non-elective)
- Specialized procedures include craniotomy, spinal fusions, ORIF, muscle flaps, skin grafts, AKA/BKA amputations, IM nails, external fixators, and spinal stimulators
- Equipment used includes traction, external fixators, trapeze, PCA pumps, JP drains, wound vacs, chest tubes, ortho braces, hemo vacs, central lines, trach, PEG, and NG tubes
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Floating required to all other inpatient units as needed
- Every other holiday required
- Scheduling requests such as block scheduling cannot be accommodated — schedule is assigned per unit need
- Active LA or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification (AHA required)
- ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications preferred (AHA required)
- Neuro surgery (pre/post-op) experience required
- Experience with TBIs and ortho trauma required
- Proficiency in blood product administration, PICC line management, IV insertion, surgical drain management, chest tube care, and isolation precautions
- Must reside 65+ miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Provides trauma and surgical nursing care to a complex, high-acuity patient population
- In the event of a declared emergency, travelers may be assigned to an emergency response team and expected to remain on-site until the event has passed or serve as part of a relief team
- All RTO requests must be disclosed and discussed during the interview process
- 13-week contract
