Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a major trauma Medical Surgical unit with neuro surgery experience and night shifts required.
Responsibilities- Work in a hospital Medical Surgical unit specializing in major trauma and neuro surgery cases
- Patient population includes multi-trauma, seizure, GSW, falls, TBI, stroke, sepsis, psych, traumatic brain injuries, and ortho-related trauma
- Common procedures include craniotomy, spinal fusions, ORIF, muscle flaps, skin grafts, amputations, external fixators, and spinal stimulators
- Utilizes specialized equipment such as traction, external fixators, PCA pumps, wound vacs, chest tubes, trach, PEG, NG tubes, and central lines
- Night shifts, 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
- Required to work every other holiday
- Floating to all other inpatient units as needed
- May be assigned to an emergency response team requiring extended presence during emergency events
- Responsibilities include care for complex trauma and neuro surgery patients and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
- Unable to guarantee specific scheduling requests; schedule is determined by unit needs
- All RTO must be declared in advance and discussed during interview
- Dress code and scrub requirements to be outlined by the facility
- Active LA or compact RN license required
- Current AHA BLS certification required
- Experience in neuro surgery and major trauma cases required
- Must be proficient in blood product administration, PICC line management, IV starts, pre/post neurosurgery care, ortho trauma, surgical drains, chest tubes, and isolation precautions
- Preferred certifications: ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Must live at least 65 miles from facility (local travelers not accepted)
- All certifications must be AHA
