Housekeeping Supervisor

Position Summary

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all housekeeping operations to ensure resident apartments, public areas, and work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and attractive condition in accordance with property policies and procedures. The Housekeeping Supervisor provides direct supervision, training, and support to housekeeping staff and works collaboratively with the Executive Director and Maintenance Director to maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and resident satisfaction.

  • Supervise, coordinate, and assign daily housekeeping activities to ensure all resident apartments, common areas, offices, and work areas are cleaned and maintained according to established standards and schedules.
  • Inspect resident apartments, public areas, and back-of-house areas regularly to ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards are consistently met.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor housekeeping work schedules to ensure adequate staffing and timely completion of all assigned tasks.
  • Train, coach, and provide ongoing guidance to housekeeping staff on proper cleaning techniques, infection control procedures, safety practices, and the appropriate use of equipment and chemicals.
  • Ensure housekeeping staff follow proper procedures for cleaning floors, carpets, walls, ceilings, furnishings, fixtures, windows, mirrors, bathrooms, hallways, stairways, elevators, and recreational areas.
  • Monitor and enforce the proper use of caution and safety signage during cleaning activities to prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Ensure compliance with established infection control policies, universal precautions, and proper use and disposal of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Oversee the safe handling, mixing, labeling, storage, and disposal of cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials in accordance with manufacturer instructions and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Maintain inventory of housekeeping supplies and equipment; order supplies as needed and ensure chemicals are secured and inaccessible to residents.
  • Inspect housekeeping carts to ensure they are properly stocked, clean, and locked when unattended; ensure carts are stored securely at the end of each shift.
  • Report hazardous conditions, maintenance issues, or equipment concerns promptly to the Maintenance Director or Executive Director and follow up to ensure resolution.
  • Coordinate cleaning of resident apartments and furnishings following resident transfer or discharge, ensuring prescribed techniques are followed.
  • Ensure trash and waste are removed from all areas of the facility and disposed of properly.
  • Schedule and attend required in-services and training sessions; ensure staff attendance at mandatory training.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, including working Holidays and additional shifts as necessary to meet operational needs.
  • Support the community’s marketing efforts by maintaining high presentation standards and interacting positively and professionally with prospective residents, families, and visitors during tours or telephone contact.
  • Observe residents for changes in condition during daily interactions and communicate any concerns immediately to a supervisor.
  • Promote teamwork and cooperation among housekeeping staff and with other departments.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, positive, and professional environment for residents, staff, and visitors through actions, communication, and appearance.
  • Model tact, professionalism, and friendliness in all interactions with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Perform hands-on housekeeping duties as needed to support staffing needs or maintain service levels.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Executive Director and/or Maintenance Director.
