Responsibilities

This job maintains safety in the MRI environment while assessing patients and safely performing routine MRI procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

  • Verify physician orders and procedures to ensure accuracy.

  • Independently operate MRI equipment to complete imaging procedures according to protocol (including placement of IV).

  • Explain procedure to patient to ensure understanding.

  • Review patient images prior to transmission to ensure diagnostic quality standards.

  • Complete timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and perform remediation as warranted.

  • Assist in departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).

  • Adopt behavior to the specific patient population, including privacy, introductions, explaining services or procedures, requesting permissions and adjusting communication style.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education

Required - High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience

Required – 6 months of supervised MRI clinical scanning experience.

Preferred – Clinical MRI experience.

Certifications

Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

AR RT registered or unlimited state license or Certification in another clinical imaging field (such as ARDMS or NMTCB) with associate degree or bachelor degree in allied health field or ARRT, ARMRIT OR CAMRT registered as an MR technologist with no experience.

Advanced certification in MRI required by an organization recognized by the ACR Registry required within two years of employment. Preferred - Advanced certification in MRI required by an organization recognized by the ACR Registry.

Knowledge

Skills and Abilities

(KSAs)

  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of MRI procedures and technical language.

  • Ability to work with and maintain strict confidentiality, work efficiently and calmly under pressure, and be self-directed and function without direct supervision.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts) and travel between facilities.

  • General knowledge of cardiac anatomy, Doppler physics, and the hemodynamics of blood flow in relation to disease states.

  • Ability to preliminarily identify stenosis or occlusion based on nationally published criteria.

  • Ability to assist attending physicians with interventional procedures requiring ultrasonic guidance.

  • Ability to provide care and/or support services in a manner that respects patient age, social, spiritual, and cultural needs.

  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and communication style.

  • Performs other related duties as required.
