Responsibilities
- Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider.
- Responsible for rooming patients, obtaining vitals, reviewing intake paperwork for completion and preparing the patient for the visit.
- Assists patients in receiving the appropriate level of care including scheduling patient appointments.
- Maintains exam room appearance, ensuring rooms are restocked at the end of each clinic day and cleaned as needed; monitors biohazard and sharps containers and replaces them as needed.
- Assists the provider with preparing injections, removing dressings, preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (e.g., work release, FMLA).
- Communicates effectively with physicians, practice managers, clinical staff and establishes good working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Prepares patient charts for clinic visits, updates patient demographic information, and verifies information with the patient.
- Processes all requests for patient prescriptions in a timely manner, charting each prescription with drug, dose, number dispensed and refills.
- Forwards all incoming documents and patient records for physician signature prior to scanning into the patient chart.
- Prepares charts for clinic visits and prints clinic schedules.
- High school diploma or GED. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program at an accredited school or institution and/or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- Minimum of 2 years medical assistant back‑office work experience or applicable work experience. Experience in orthopedics is preferred.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of the health care field and orthopedics.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures regarding patient care in the clinics.
- Knowledge of back‑office skills to include injections, suture and staple removal, DME orders and Physical Therapy orders.
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality, state laws, HIPAA regulations and medical records procedures.
- Follow‑up with patients and responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Professionalism when interacting with providers, patients, family members and the public.
- Understanding patient education needs and effectively sharing information with patients and families.
- Problem‑solving and time‑management skills.
- Project a pleasant and professional image as an LOS employee.
- Plan, prioritize and complete delegated work assignments.
- Demonstrate compassion when dealing with patients and family members.
- Normal office environment. Some travel within the community.
- Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment; some bending and stretching required; manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard.
- Access and Confidentiality Agreement must be read and signed.
- Healthcare Compliance Pro Training.
