The Nursing Assistant performs a variety of patient care activities and related nonprofessional services necessary for patient comfort. Tasks include assisting with patient cleaning, feeding, preparation for treatment, taking and recording vital signs, changing bed linen, preparing treatment trays and supplies, and providing assistance to nursing personnel. The role requires close supervision, following established guidelines, and performing phlebotomy with minimal patient discomfort.
Responsibilities- Assists in preparing unit and patient rooms to ensure proper accommodation during hospital stays; accompanies patients during admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Takes and records patient vital signs and other measurements, documents in CIS, and performs and records EKGs for triaged patients.
- Assists patients with daily living activities such as bed baths, oral hygiene, dressing, and positioning.
- Prepares patients for meals, serves food, and feeds patients when needed.
- Transports patients to and from designated areas within the hospital, ensuring identification bracelets and professional care.
- Retrieves medications via pneumatic tube or pharmacy and delivers them to the nurse or places them as directed.
- Performs patient phlebotomy following policies and procedures.
- Expedite answering patient call lights, maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable environment by cleaning rooms, handling linen, and reporting equipment issues.
- Provides input for end-of-shift reports, participates in quality assurance, and uses equipment efficiently.
- Assists physicians with examinations and special tests, transports specimens to lab, and supports patient rehabilitation.
- Runs interdepartmental errands such as transporting lab specimens and picking up medications.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
- Manages phone calls and communications accurately and efficiently.
- High School Diploma
- Good communication and customer service skills
- BLS certification required
