Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position with strong neuro and mixed acuity experience, requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities- Work in a Mixed Acuity Progressive Care Unit within a short-term acute care hospital
- Patient population includes medical, oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary cases
- Neuro, oncology, and stroke patients with both MS and PCU levels of care
- Nurse to patient ratios: 1:5-6 for MS, 1:3-4 for PCU
- Care includes Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix, Insulin drips, Post Heart Cath and Post Pacemaker procedures
- Unstable strokes and BiPap cases are managed
- Requires use of Cerner EMR
- Day shift schedule: 3x12 hour shifts from 6:00 to 18:30
- Mandatory float within the hospital and to affiliate hospitals
- Primary duties involve caring for mixed acuity patients, including those with oncology and neurological conditions
- Must be comfortable with all major drips and frequent neuro assessments
- Color code for scrubs is red top and black bottoms
- No cost for hospital parking
- Auto-approval for up to 5 days of requested time off
- Expected to work two of three major holidays
- All travelers may be floated as needed to meet staffing requirements
- Active IN or compact RN license required prior to start
- ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required (AHA & RQI accepted)
- 18 months to 2 years of recent relevant experience required
- Solid neuro experience required
- Experience managing specified drips and procedures as listed
- Graduation from a university accredited by the ACEN or CCNE
- Cerner charting experience required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates not accepted for this PCU position
- Former perm or PRN employees must be away at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
