Chemist – Industrial Laboratory (3‑Day Workweek)
Join a hands‑on, fast‑paced industrial laboratory team providing full technical service support onsite at the client. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both lab work and practical, in‑field problem solving. Position OverviewThe Chemist plays a key role in maintaining product quality, supporting production operations, and ensuring process efficiency. While primarily laboratory‑based, this role also includes light mechanical work such as maintaining pumps, managing expired lubricants, and supporting chemical systems on the production floor. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants broad experience across analytical chemistry, quality testing, and industrial operations.
Key Responsibilities Laboratory Analysis & Testing- Conduct QC testing using ICP, FTIR, titrations, pH, conductivity, and other analytical methods
- Perform microbiological and water treatment testing
- Maintain and monitor process chemical solutions
- Assist in developing testing protocols and reporting findings
- Support production floor troubleshooting to resolve process or product issues
- Perform maintenance tasks related to product systems and pump equipment
- Participate in safety and cost‑reduction initiatives
- Maintain lab equipment, tools, and work spaces to ensure compliance
- Manage chemical inventory, track usage, and coordinate ordering
- Cross‑train on multiple lab functions to provide coverage as needed
- Step into supervisory responsibilities when required
- Strong understanding of chemistry fundamentals and common lab techniques
- 1+ year experience in a manufacturing lab, QA/QC environment, or similar
- Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office (formulas, documentation, data entry)
- Excellent communication, problem solving, and time management
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs
- Comfortable working independently in a dynamic industrial setting
- 2‑ or 4‑year degrees (including non‑science majors) considered with relevant lab/GMP experience
- Ability to commit to a long‑term 3‑day workweek (12‑hour shifts)
- Experience in GMP, industrial chemistry, or production support is a plus
- 3‑day workweek (36 hours), paid as a full 40‑hour week
- Options for day OR night shift, with 2–4 weeks of paid first‑shift training
- Exposure to a wide range of hands‑on testing: ICP, FTIR, titrations, pH, conductivity, microbiology, water treatment, and more
- Cross‑training across lab and operational functions
- Opportunities to support process improvement and safety initiatives
- Ability to step into supervisory responsibilities as you grow
- Open Team Lead role available for qualified individuals
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lafayette, IN.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
