Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled welder with proven experience in Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW) and Stick Welding (SMAW) on black iron and cast components. This role requires advanced welding knowledge, precision, and the ability to work on heavy cast products used in large-scale machinery.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform high-quality FCAW and SMAW welds on heavy cast and black (Gray) iron components following welding symbols, blueprints, and internal WPS procedures.
• Prepare cast surfaces prior to welding: grinding, beveling, cleaning slag/scale, pre-heating as needed.
• Weld in all required positions: flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
• Execute weld repairs on cast iron including crack repair, build-ups, filling voids, and structural strengthening.
• Identify and manage heat input to prevent cast cracking, warpage, or metallurgical defects.
• Work under strict quality standards requiring precise weld bead placement, depth, and uniformity.
• Operate cutting torches, grinders, and basic fabrication tools as needed.
- no torches will be required/used.
• Maintain welding equipment, change wire/rods, and report equipment issues.
• Complete weld documentation, repair logs, and follow process instructions.
• Follow all PPE, safety, lock-out/tag-out, and hot-work safety procedures.
Required
Skills & Qualifications
• 3+ years welding experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or foundry operations.
• Advanced proficiency in:
o Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW)
o Stick Welding (SMAW)
• Strong understanding of welding cast iron, including:
o Pre-heat / post-heat
o Nickel and specialty rods
o Heat-affected zones
o Weld sequencing on cast assemblies
• Ability to read blueprints, weld symbols, and production drawings.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot weld issues.
• Able to lift 50 lbs., stand for long periods, bend, kneel, and work in a manufacturing environment.
• High attention to detail - must pass weld test on cast/black iron.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience welding for heavy-equipment manufacturers
• Experience repairing castings or large fabricated housings.
• AWS certifications (FCAW / SMAW) or equivalent.
Work Environment
• Foundry/fabrication environment (heat, sparks, fumes, PPE required).
• Exposure to heavy castings, large weldments, and overhead lifting operations.
• Overtime may be required based on production needs.
Why This Role Matters
This is a high-skill welding position critical to the structural integrity of cast products used in heavy-equipment manufacturing. Your skill level directly impacts the safety, performance, and quality of the final equipment.
