Air Systems Shop Support Mechanical Engineer 2
Compensation
: $36 to $40 per hour W2
Assignment Type
: 24 month contract with extensions available

Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
The Role
- Shop support focused mechanical engineering role supporting manufacturing operations
- Primary responsibility is real time troubleshooting of issues on the shop floor
- Role is hands on and highly interactive rather than design or NPI focused
- Acts as a liaison between engineering and production teams
- Requires quick decision making and the ability to think on your feet
- Fully onsite role due to constant shop floor interaction
- Reports to the onsite Air Systems engineering manager
- Works under direction of multiple engineering team leads
- High level of cross functional interaction with production quality and suppliers
- Open engineering workspace with frequent collaboration
- Provide day to day engineering support for existing component families and sub systems
- Respond directly to shop floor issues and investigate problems in real time
- Troubleshoot mechanical and assembly related issues
- Identify root causes and recommend corrective actions
- Work with production teams to document issues and implement solutions
- Capture detailed documentation including photos measurements and inspection results
- Support CPI activities and selective NPI troubleshooting using structured problem solving
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to resolve component and quality issues
- Lead and participate in technical discussions and issue resolution meetings
- Assemble and disassemble components as part of investigations
- Perform detailed inspections of new and field returned parts
- Use internal engineering systems to retrieve manage and document information
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- One to three or more years of engineering experience
- Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and prints
- Comfort working directly with shop floor technicians
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Ability to make decisions quickly in a fast paced environment
- Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Basic mechanical and engineering troubleshooting skills
- Understanding of component level systems and assemblies
- Ability to interpret measurements tolerances and inspection data
- Experience with Creo or similar 3D CAD tools
- Component level design exposure including castings fabrications or injection molded polymers
- Engine component or system experience
- Experience supporting manufacturing or shop floor environments
- Strong collaboration skills across engineering production and supplier teams
- Ability to advocate for the shop floor while balancing engineering requirements
- Self starter mindset with minimal formal process
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Role requires confidence and proactive communication and is not suited for shy personalities
