Job Summary: This position is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of county road signs. An incumbent in this position may be designated “Sign Technician II.”

Job Duties:

Installs, repairs, and replaces signs, posts, and pavement markings
Ensures compliance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
Operates computer program to design and print signs; performs all other aspects of the sign making process
Evaluates roads to determine the best location for signs in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
Inputs sign location information into database
Complete locate requests prior to installing signs
Maintains inventory of signs and materials; requests purchases as needed
Installs work safety zones; flags traffic at work sites
Operates hydraulic rammer and post hole driver to install signposts; operates hydraulic crane
Processes work orders
Assists with the installation of traffic data collection equipment
Performs other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required
More than one year of related experience required
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of road sign installation, repair, and maintenance
Knowledge of safety principles and practices
Knowledge of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices standards
Knowledge of work order/asset management software
Knowledge of sign design software
Skill in the operation of job-related equipment and hand tools
Skill in the operation of as assigned vehicle
Skill in oral and written communication
