Overview
The Patient Care Technician functions as a clinical support partner, assisting the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional. Additionally, the Patient Care Technician may assume the responsibilities of a Health Unit Coordinator. The surgical trauma unit specializes in the care of post-surgical patients and the care of trauma patients. The caregivers are very team oriented, always willing to help each other.
This is a night shift position 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. and requires a current Colorado CNA license.
- Prioritize and deliver basic patient care, including toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, fresh water and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient needs, while providing excellent customer service when responding to patient and family requests.
- Report and record patient care findings and data in a timely manner. Report changes in the patient condition quickly and secure qualified assistance as needed.
- May perform telemetry duties as required based on the unit, and function as a patient care attendant by monitoring patients, addressing patient care needs, and collaborating with other members of the patient care team as required.
- Transport medications from the delivery system to the RN as required when working on a clinical unit.
- Collaborate and consult with the RN and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care.
- May assume the responsibilities of a health unit coordinator, including answering phones, transcribing physician orders, managing unit records, organizing, stocking, and maintaining unit supplies.
- Implements plan of care as delegated.
- Performs assigned duties within Scope of Practice. Performs specialized procedures with skill validation and according to regulatory standards.

- Current Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in the state of Colorado.
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
- Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior CNA experience or applicable healthcare experience.
- Current enrollment in nursing school program.
- Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require verbal communication as well as hearing and understanding alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies.
- Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision; includes frequent computer use and documentation of patient care and medication preparation.
- Lift and transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment; handle items of varying weights, up to heavy items.
- Walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment; push/pull gurneys and portable equipment; navigate crowded rooms.
- May stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
- For roles requiring driving: may be required to drive a vehicle and navigate traffic and signs.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate is dependent upon experience: $20.00 - $26.22.
