Schedule: Monday-Friday 2:00pm-7:00am & Sunday 8:00am – 8:00pm
OverviewThe Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides support, supervision, and training to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a Community Training Home (CTH). The DSP helps individuals achieve independence, safety, and personal development in accordance with agency values and procedures.
Responsibilities- Professionalism & Conduct – Maintain professional behavior and follow agency mission, policies, and procedures;
Treat individuals and coworkers with dignity and respect at all times;
Support individuals to achieve personal outcomes and a high quality of life;
Promote an environment free from abuse and neglect, respecting rights and dignity;
Remain on duty until properly relieved. - Health & Safety Support – Assist individuals in maintaining safe and healthy lifestyles;
Monitor and report changes in health and daily routines;
Support prescribed diets, adaptive equipment use, and safety drills;
Follow proper lifting and mobility assistance techniques. - Daily Living & Skill Development – Provide hands-on support with hygiene, grooming, and daily living tasks;
Prepare meals and snacks based on dietary needs;
Encourage participation in chores, activities, and life skills training;
Implement and document ISPs and behavior programs. - Documentation & Communication – Complete accurate documentation in Therap and other required forms (e.g., T-Logs, GERs, ISP data);
Communicate changes or incidents to supervisors and nursing staff;
Maintain confidentiality and protect agency-issued credentials. - Transportation & Community Engagement – Safely transport individuals to activities, appointments, and outings;
Operate agency vehicles, wheelchair lifts, and restraints as trained;
Follow agency transportation and safety protocols;
Administer medications and treatments per agency policy;
Complete MARs;
Support individuals with financial transactions, receipts, and account documentation. - Additional Duties – Perform general housekeeping duties;
Report maintenance or repair needs;
Attend meetings and complete ongoing training;
Perform related duties as assigned;
Lead DSP duties such as monitoring MARs for accuracy and supporting licensing reviews;
Plan weekly meals and complete grocery shopping with individual dietary needs;
Conduct personal shopping as needed;
Submit household purchase orders and maintenance work orders promptly;
Provide rights and abuse prevention training;
Oversee and manage individuals’ financial accounts;
Maintain current Personal Property Inventory for each individual. - Physical Demands & Working Conditions – Lift up to 50 lbs; frequent movement and varied work environments; possible exposure to communicable diseases and physical aggression; use of safety equipment as required; may be assigned to alternate locations or shifts; operate agency vehicles safely, including at night.
- High School Diploma or GED (required) and minimum age 18
- One year working with individuals with developmental disabilities (preferred)
- Valid South Carolina Driver’s License and acceptable driving record required
This position is classified as Essential. In emergencies, DSPs may be required to report to work to ensure health and safety of individuals receiving services.
