Position: Plant Maintenance Engineer I — Position #12089
Work hours:
40 hours per week. Typical starting salary: $19.96 - $26.41 per hour. There is a full-time vacancy in the Winnipesaukee River Basin Program for a Plant Maintenance Engineer who will implement and supervise a maintenance program for the treatment plant, pump stations, mobile and construction equipment, and the collection system to ensure uninterrupted operation of wastewater treatment facilities.
- Perform mechanical repair work in the pump stations and related sewer lines, supervise subordinate maintenance personnel, and review work for adherence to plans, specifications, and technical trade standards.
- Evaluate, observe, and inspect equipment and building grounds; complete repairs as necessary to assure continuous operation and record data relevant to operation.
- Recommend a maintenance schedule and record/preventive/corrective maintenance functions for equipment per manufacturer specifications.
- Supervise on-site contract repair work to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
- Prepare lists of tools, equipment, supplies, and materials for building and equipment maintenance and pump station operation activities.
- Perform maintenance and repair of the system’s interceptor sewers and rights-of-way, including brush and tree removal, resetting manhole rings and covers, and cleaning drainage structures.
- Participate in ongoing training and education on machines within the machine shop and fabricating parts for older pump station and sewer-line systems.
- Provide on-the-job training and instruction to subordinates and new employees.
- Seek to improve practices to add quality and value in support of the Department’s mission while identifying and eliminating unnecessary or redundant actions.
- Meet criminal background and driving record requirements as part of employment.
Education/
Experience:
Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after high school. Education and experience must be in the field of engineering, maintenance and repair, or construction of buildings, facilities, or related equipment, including one year in a supervisory capacity.
License/Certification: Valid driver’s license.
Other Requirements:
- Must be physically able to lift and carry material weighing up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Willing and able to respond to callbacks and participate in rotating on-call duty.
- Must be willing to carry a cell phone to receive notifications of callbacks.
- Must be able to work a schedule that includes weekend and holiday rotation.
Must obtain a NH Wastewater Operator 1-OIT minimum certification by passing the Grade 1 written examination within one year of employment.
