Basic Purpose
Under immediate or general supervision, performs a variety of routine, semi-skilled maintenance, and/or janitorial duties in one of the City maintenance divisions: parks. Assignments are of a temporary and/or seasonal nature.
This is a six (6) month temporary position that will work a flexible forty (40) hour work week, which includes evenings and weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Performs a variety of grounds and facility maintenance duties at the RAC and Rainier Vista Community Park.
- Performs janitorial duties, which include restroom cleaning.
- Uses various gas-powered equipment and hand tools.
- Assists with prepping/lining athletic fields.
- Provides customer service for RAC and Rainier Vista Community Park visitors.
Special Requirements or Licenses(s)
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have basic knowledge of customer service, event management, and facility oversight.
- Must be flexible, reliable, responsible, and enjoy working with the general public.
- Must pass a thorough background investigation.
- Must maintain a level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Must have a valid Washington State driver license and a driving record acceptable to the City and the City's insurance carrier.
- Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be complete as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
- Parks and facilities maintenance experience is preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to work rules and guidelines.
- Demonstrated basic mechanical aptitude.
- Typical assignments are out-of-doors normally requiring work in inclement weather at cold, hot, dirty, wet, noisy, or cramped work sites.
- The work involves physical labor, physical dexterity, and mechanical aptitude.
- Duties may require exposure to chemicals, toxic gases, raw sewage, or other environmental hazards.
- Hearing, speaking, or otherwise communicating to exchange information in person or on the phone.
- Perform physical labor associated with the essential duties of the position.
- Work in the field in all weather conditions and over rough terrain.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to thirty (3) lbs. Some assistance is available to mitigate the heaviest lifting.
- Bending, kneeling/crouching, reaching, climbing, and crawling.
- Operating equipment; electric, gas, and various hand tools.
- Grasp and hold and effectively use assigned personal protective equipment and tools for the position.
Temporary/seasonal positions are not eligible for health insurance, other insurances, holidays, vacation, and/or other paid leave benefits provided to regular full-time positions; however, they are covered by Workers' Compensation Insurance. The City will comply with RCW 49.46.210 and WAC's through in providing paid sick leave to all covered employees (non-exempt).
Social Security and Federal withholding taxes will be deducted from wages.
Temporary/seasonal positions are eligible for membership and will participate in the Department of Retirement Systems.
