Job Description
Job Title: Substitute Teacher for Elkhorn Public Schools
Job Code: 1536
Number of Days Worked: Varies based on needs of the district. (120 Max) There are no guarantees that the employee will be called to work.
Department: ESU #3 Substitute Program
FLSA Status: Exempt
Immediate District Supervisor: District designated personnel
ESU #3 Supervisor: Director, Business Services
Staff Supervised: None
Essential Requirements:
- No history of child abuse or negligence.
- Must hold a valid Nebraska teaching certificate and placed on file in the ESU #3 Business Services Department by the Substitute Teacher.
- Good communication skills to deal with people internal to the school system, as well as external.
- Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job: classroom instruction and supervision with a wide variety of needs in a regular and/or special education setting, maintain established routines and procedures set forth by classroom teacher and school.
- Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job: being attentive to detail, adapting to changing work priorities, communication with diverse groups, meeting deadlines and schedules, setting priorities, and working with confidential, detailed information/data.
- Possess flexibility in job assignments.
- Must be punctual and dependable.
- Must display a professional attitude.
- Understand and comply with the ESU #3 Board of Education Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook.
- Understand and comply with the district's Policies and Sub Teacher Handbook expectations of the substitute.
- Meets and instructs students as outlined by the teacher to assigned classes in the locations and he time designated.
- Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
- Performs all extra duties for the absent teacher as required by the building principal.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required.
- Assumes responsibilities for over-seeing student behavior in class and surrounding area.
