Budget Analyst

The Budget Analyst supports the development, preparation, monitoring, and analysis the operating budgets. This position works closely with budget managers to provide financial guidance, reporting, and analysis to support effective financial planning and decision-making.

• Assist with the preparation and implementation of the annual operating budget.
• Load and maintain budget data in financial systems, including annual budget rollovers.
• Process budget transfers, adjustments, and journal entries as required.
• Maintain budget records, documentation, and departmental files.

• Monitor revenues, expenditures, and budget variances for assigned departments.
• Identify and resolve non‑sufficient funds (NSF) issues and ensure compliance with budget controls.
• Prepare budget‑to‑actual reports, dashboards, and financial analyses.
• Support forecasting activities related to enrollment, tuition revenue, and financial aid.
• Generate financial reports using systems such as Banner, Cognos, and Excel.
• Prepare projections, data analysis, and reports for leadership and administration.
• Respond to ad hoc financial data requests and assist with system improvements.
• Serve as a resource for budget managers regarding financial procedures and policies.
• Provide guidance on budget projections, financial trends, and variance analysis.

• Maintain budget‑related resources, forms, and policy information on departmental websites.
• Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
• (Associate’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience may be considered)
• 3–5 years of experience in budgeting, accounting, or financial analysis
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities

• Experience with Banner, Touchnet, Cognos, or similar financial systems
• Experience working in higher education
• Familiarity with Student Accounts, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, and Financial Aid processes
• Knowledge of GAAP and higher education budgeting practices
• Experience with financial automation or process improvement initiatives
