Overview

Description In this role, employee will be responsible for packaging all materials processed by our Cut-to-Length line and manual shear. Key duties include interpreting work orders to fulfill packaging requirements, preparing skids according to specified instructions, and safely operating forklifts and cranes. Adherence to safety protocols and strict 5S standards to maintain a clean and organized work environment are essential. Requires a detail-oriented, safety-conscious individual who thrives in a dynamic warehouse environment.

Essential

Functions
  • Package all materials processed by the Cut-to-Length line and manual shear with attention to detail.
  • Interpret work orders accurately to fulfill packaging requirements effectively.
  • Prepare appropriate skids following specified work orders, ensuring proper handling and shipment readiness.
  • Possess qualifications to operate forklifts and cranes safely, facilitating the movement of materials and supplies within the warehouse environment.
  • Demonstrate safe and efficient operation of air tools to maintain productivity and workplace safety standards.
  • Clearly and accurately record relevant information on packaged skids to facilitate proper identification and handling.
  • Safely operate a radial arm saw, adhering to established safety protocols and maximizing efficiency.
  • Construct skids according to specified Part Numbers (PN) in a manner that prioritizes both safety and efficiency.
  • Uphold stringent 5S standards and maintain a clean and organized departmental environment daily.
  • Conduct daily calibration of tape measures and demonstrate proficiency in reading measurements in both inches and millimeters.
Experience And Education

High school education or GED required. Employee must have the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment. Employee must be able to also meet the physical requirements of the job including the ability to lift 50 pounds and work on your feet on a concrete floor for the entire shift. Employee must be able to effectively communicate with others and work well in a team environment.

  • Position demands prolonged periods of standing, walking, and operating machinery.
  • Operators must have precise hand-eye coordination to handle equipment and materials effectively.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and manipulate heavy materials and equipment.
  • Capacity to endure repetitive tasks and maintain focus for extended periods.
  • Ability to hear warning signals and communicate in a noisy environment.
  • Clear vision is necessary to inspect materials and read gauges and instruments accurately.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during operations.
  • Operators must be capable of making quick decisions to optimize processes and minimize downtime.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing production demands and work well under pressure.
  • Effective communication is essential for coordinating with team members and reporting any issues promptly.
  • Maintain orderly work areas and adhere to production schedules.
Equipment, Aids, Tools

Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.

Working Conditions

The primary work environment is within a steel manufacturing facility, which may include:

  • Exposure to moving machinery, heavy equipment, and sharp objects.
  • Work areas may be subject to fluctuating temperatures, including hot and cold conditions, depending on the season.
  • Loud noise from machinery and equipment operation.
  • The presence of dust, debris, and airborne particles is typical of an industrial setting.
  • Adherence to strict safety protocols to mitigate risks associated with the manufacturing process.
