As a Co-Op student, you will support Mechanical Design Engineers in the design, test, and validation of new products. Coats is based in LaVergne, TN- about 15 minutes outside of Nashville, TN.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Interpret and understand engineering drawings, prints, and specifications.
- Review and compare dimensional inspection reports against design requirements.
- Develop and document critical dimensional tolerances for components and assemblies.
- Organize, input, and maintain reports within electronic database s.
- Set up, perform, and document functional and validation testing and prepare formal test reports.
- Coordinate and drive information flow across functional teams to support approvals.
- Collaborate with Quality, Purchasing, and Operations to communicate test results and findings.
- Perform hands‑on mechanical tasks, including learning to change and balance tire assemblies using various types of equipment.
- Build and maintain positive, effective working relationships with cross‑functional team members.
- Ability to apply statistical analysis and process control concepts to real‑world engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Must meet all Coats Internship Application requirements.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (required).
- Rising Junior or Senior preferred.
- Previous internship or co‑op experience in metal manufacturing is a plus and sheet metal experience (forming, welding, assembly) is preferred.
- Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical systems preferred.
- Working knowledge of CAD software required (experience with Creo is a plus)
- Proficient PC and computer skills.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a hands‑on mindset.
- Self‑motivated, proactive, positive attitude, and a strong team player.
