What You Will Do:The Senior Manager of Engineering is responsible for leading and managing the multidisciplinary engineering team, driving innovation through new product introductions and helping with maintaining the support for legacy products across all product lines. This position oversees mechanical, electrical, and project engineering functions to ensure new products are designed, validated, and launched efficiently and to the highest quality standards. This role requires a strategic technical leader who can balance innovation with disciplined execution, develop team capabilities, and collaborate cross-functionally across manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and marketing.
PositionDescription:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers (Mechanical, Electrical, and Project Leaders) through all phases of NPD. Team is located in TN, WI, MN and globally in TW/PRC.
- Define team priorities, assign projects, and ensure timely delivery of development milestones.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Support professional development and succession planning for engineering staff.
- Manage departmental budgets, staffing levels, and resource allocation based on business priorities.
- Oversee the execution of new product development projects from concept to production launch. Work with in-house manufacturing plants and global outsource supply base.
- Ensure products meet design, quality, safety, cost, and schedule targets.
- Use and Coach the NPD process (phase-gate methodology, project reviews, and risk management).
- Partner with Product Management, Marketing, and Operations to define product roadmap and commercialization strategies.
- Approve technical design decisions and ensure design maturity through structured reviews and testing.
- Serve as the primary interface between engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain.
- Collaborate with global teams, including the Asia-based NPD and supplier engineering organizations.
- Support supplier qualification, design-for-manufacturability initiatives, and global sourcing efforts.
- Ensure manufacturing readiness through early engagement and design validation.
- Drive continuous improvement in design practices, documentation standards, and testing protocols.
- Champion the use of Solid Works and other CAD/CAE tools to improve design accuracy and efficiency.
- Oversee design optimization, cost reduction, and performance improvement initiatives for both new and existing products.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards (UL, CSA, etc.).
- Support innovation and technology roadmap development in coordination with the VP of Engineering.
- Promote a culture of quality and engineering excellence within the NPD Engineering organization.
- Implement and track KPIs for NPD efficiency, quality, and time-to-market.
- Anticipate and mitigate project risks by guiding technical trade-offs and resource adjustments.
Required:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
- Bachelor’s degree (required) in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or related Engineering field.
- Master’s degree or MBA (preferred) in Engineering, Management, or Business Administration.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in product development, engineering management
- Proven leadership of cross-functional or global NPD teams.
- Demonstrated success in launching complex electro-mechanical products from concept to production.
- Experience with phase-gate or stage-gate processes and project portfolio management.
- Strong technical foundation in mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Solid Works, PLM systems, MS Project/Smartsheet
- Strong analytical and project management capabilities.
- Familiarity with Lean, and DRM principles.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approx. 10%).
Compensation:
- $180-200K + Bonus for Sr Manager – If you qualify for Dir or VP level this is adjusted accordingly.
