Receives supervision from Head Lifeguards, Pool Managers, and Aquatic Coordinators.
Essential Job FunctionsDuties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
- Prevent accidents and eliminate or minimize hazardous situations.
- Continuously scan the water while on stand.
- Respond quickly to all emergencies and potential drowning situations.
- Administer any emergency first aid needed by the victim of an accident.
- Resolve customer complaints in a professional manner.
- Observe and enforce all facility rules and regulations.
- Educate the patrons and inform them of the purpose and need for our rules and regulations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary facility.
- Attend all in-service training sessions as scheduled.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- For indefinite periods of time - exposure to the outdoors and extreme heat
- Exposure to fumes, odors, mechanical, electrical, explosive, radiation, and chemical hazards.
- Walking, twisting body, standing, squatting.
- Sitting; seeing; running; kneeling; grasping; climbing; cleaning.
- Reading, decision making.
- Reaching above shoulder level.
- Pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds; carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Using both hands for simple and firm grasping.
- Clarity of hearing; fine finger manipulation.
- Operation of calculator, pool vacuums, pool mechanical equipment, and a variety of hand tools.
- Must be 15 years or older.
- Possess an understanding of facility rules + policies & procedures regarding American Red Cross Lifeguarding.
- Demonstrate high focus, quick decision making, problem solving, and good reactionary skills.
- Must be safety conscious and should have a conviction for any safety concerns.
- Must be self-motivated, accountable, reliable, trustworthy, and eager to learn & improve.
- Be available to work 4 - 5 days per week including some weekends.
- Have reliable transportation.
- Swim 200 yards continuously using front crawl and breaststroke.
- Tread water 2 minutes using legs only. (Candidates should place their hands under the armpits).
- Retrieve a 10lb brick from a depth of at least 7 ft and swim 20 yards back to wall and exit pool within a time limit of 1 minute and 40 seconds.
Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
Licenses And CertificatesMust hold or obtain a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification upon hire. (Classes offered by Department)
Must hold or obtain a current First Aid and CPR w/AED Certification upon hire. (Classes offered by Department)
