Receives direction from the Parks Superintendent and the Park Maintenance Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions- Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Regular and timely attendance at work is essential. Able to work weekday mornings from 7:00am to Noon.
- Maintain appropriate operation records (pool chemistry, meter readings etc.) required by the department.
- Monitor, test, and record pool water chemistry through the testing of water samples and apply appropriate chemicals as needed to adjust water chemistry to maintain standards.
- Handle chemicals such as chlorine, Celite, CO2, and muriatic acid.
- Perform pump room duties which includes backwashing and handling & installation of chemicals as necessary. Perform some troubleshooting of pool equipment and assist the Head Pool Technician with repairs.
- Assist in the overall maintenance of each swimming pool facility, including cleaning up the surrounding areas of each pool.
- Brush and vacuum pool bottom and sides; clean tiles and wash down pool decks.
- Remove debris from pools. Monitor and maintain pool filtration system, including cleaning out skimmers and filters.
- Recommend purchases of supplies and materials to the Parks Maintenance Supervisor.
- Maintain inventory of needed supplies and equipment for the pools.
- Travel to and clean multiple pools each morning prior to pools opening to the public.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Mobility within an office and field environment for indefinite periods.
- Exposure to chemical, fumes/odors, explosive, electrical, mechanical, and radiation hazards.
- Exposure to extreme heat and noise, and constant noise. Writing; walking; typing; twisting body; stooping; standing; squatting; sitting; seeing; running; pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Kneeling; crawling; climbing; cleaning; reading; decision making; reaching above shoulder level; using both hands for simple and firm grasping.
- Ability to hear clearly. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively; in person, by two-way radio, and by telephone. Good dexterity for operation of personal computer, typewriter, and calculator.
- Ability to (with training) operate pool pumps, motor systems, chemical systems, vacuums, brushes, and pool water test kits.
Knowledge of:
- Wave Pool and Conventional Pool operations from a standpoint of safety and mechanical procedures.
Ability to:
- Operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely.
- Work outdoors in the heat and perform physical labor without limitations.
- Swim adequately. Maintain pools in accordance with prescribed standards.
- Follow schedules required for proper pool maintenance. Perform normal maintenance and cleaning services of pools.
- Work well with others as a team to accomplish daily goals.
Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License. First Aid and CPR Certification (w/AED) preferred.
Previous Pool Maintenance Experience Preferred.
