WASTEWATER

TREATMENT OPERATOR LEVEL 1
-MAXIMUM SALARY $21.01 P/H

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION. The Treatment Plant Operator Level 1 at the Wastewater Department is responsible for operating and maintenance tasks essential to the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and Lift (pumping) Stations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Operate pumps to transfer sludge’s and wastewater.

Clean, maintain, and assist in repair of WWTP equipment such as pumps, gear reducers, and compressors.

Operates lawn mower, pickup truck fork truck and semi-tanker to haul sludge to the field.

Plows snow with a pickup truck when needed.

Completes work assignments in a safe yet timely manner.

Monitor and operate the Wastewater Treatment Plant and pumping stations utilizing the operator station computer.

Ability to work overtime in order to maintain operation of the Plant.

Electrical safety and machine guarding abilities.

CDL preferred but not required.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by a Supervisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the City.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

RESPONSIBILITY:

Incumbent performs assignments guided by broad policies and/or general objectives. Follows established practices and procedures of the Department. Errors in work are detected or prevented through procedural checks and notification from other departments or the public. Undetected errors may result in a loss of time and money to the Department.

This is not a supervisory position.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, and other City Departments.

Incumbent reports directly to the Wastewater Superintendent.

While performing the duties of this job, the Operator is regularly required to stand and sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors). Employee must be able to distinguish alarm lights.
