The hiring salary for this position is $55,823.32 annually.
Charles County Government is seeing an experienced Parks and Ground Team Leader to represents, inspire, and empower a team of Parks and Grounds Equipment Operators and Maintenance Technicians by encouraging them to offer ideas about decisions that affect them, and guide team members to improve work functionality and productivity. Team Leader will perform a wide range of tasks associated with parks and grounds maintenance work;
snow removal; and emergency response for county parks facilities and grounds areas.
- Provides guidance, motivation, and support to a team that develops, implements, and executes strategies and goals to achieve better workflow processes, measures, and results.
- Resolves conflicts between team members and acts as a liaison between the team and supervisory management.
- Operates and directs the operation of grounds maintenance equipment, such as backhoes, dump trucks, front-end loader, turf renovation equipment and turf tractors. Checks vehicle and equipment for any safety or other concerns prior to operation.
- Assists supervisory personnel with training and providing feedback on performance of Parks and Grounds Equipment Operators, Grounds Maintenance Technicians, and assigned part-time staff.
- Ensures completion of daily assignments and coordinates start times, lunch schedules, and end of shift responsibilities.
- Verifies team members have adequate tools and equipment to complete assigned tasks.
- Applies deductive and inductive reasoning to estimate and compare the short-term and long-term costs and benefits of potential solutions.
- Collaborates with supervisory personnel to perform the planning, monitoring, and reviewing of the work performed by contractors to ensure compliance with contract agreements and specifications. As requested, obtains or estimates costs associated with maintenance and repair activities.
- Cooperates with employees in other departments, divisions, and agencies to safety resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Supports supervisory personnel by training, guiding, and advising less experienced employees and providing feedback on performance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree in related field. Three (3) years of progressively responsible parks or grounds maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid driver's license, Class A CDL.
Special Requirements/Qualifications:
Subject to work beyond the normal scheduled hours of work.
Subject to call back in emergencies.

- Knowledge of methods and procedures used in parks and grounds maintenance.

- Ability to perform and supervise parks and grounds maintenance work efficiently.
- Ability to use the tools and equipment of work efficiently.
- Ability to train and lead others in the work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is regularly active with periods of heavy exertion. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 100 pounds; climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding; bend, kneel, crouch and crawl; reach, hold, grasp, and turn objects; feel the size, shape, and temperature of items; use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards; speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing, and to detect odors.

Principal duties of this job are performed in a general office, in shop or field settings and outside environment.
