Position Summary
Located 45 minutes from the Nation’s Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) has been twice named in the top 150 community colleges by the Aspen Institute with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. The Career Advisor supports students through the CSM registration process, provides access to resources and services which highlight career pathways, and serves as a resource throughout the tri‑county region for career information and student success. Additionally, the Advisor serves as a liaison to academic departments, college committees, secondary schools, and community organizations. The individual in this position must be knowledgeable of college offerings for both credit and continuing education programs as well as become familiar with Charles, Calvert, and St.
Mary's school system career discovery models. The Academic and Career Advisor reports to the Executive Director of Academic Advising.
This position was created in accordance with the Maryland Blueprint to provide secondary school students career advisement. The position is grant funded and is projected to end June 30, 2030.

The hiring salary for this position will be from the min to mid-point of the salary range advertised. This position is open until filled.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities 75% Career Advising- Provides career advising and career counseling to students who are dually enrolled
- Refers dually enrolled students to a variety of tools, resources, and programming to support career planning and help students identify career pathways
- Conducts workshops and programs that foster career discovery and exploration to dually enrolled students
- Provides job readiness assistance to dully enrolled students through resume writing assistance, interview strategies and preparation
- Supports dually enrolled students in the exploration of experiential opportunities such as internships, service learning, employment and linking them to community resources
- Serves as a liaison for field trip requests to the appropriate CSM department relating to career exploration visits
- Serves as liaison to academic departments, college committees, and community organizations as directed by supervisor that support the dually enrolled population
- Participates in the development, implementation, review, presentation, and revision of orientations for Dual and Early College students
- Organizes, develops, and promotes career‑related events on campus and in the community, collaborating with marketing, employers, agencies, and school systems to engage students and stakeholders
- Assist students with career‑based computerized systems (i.e. Career Coach, Career Network, O
* Net) - Supports students intending to remain at CSM after their EC program by helping them understand how completed courses align with their career goals and assisting with re‑admission processes
- Provides referrals to other campus and community resources regarding student issues both academic and personal
- Maintains tracking systems of student contact and classifications for reporting purposes, such as career assistance, workshops and classroom visits, orientation and others as directed by supervisor
- Develops innovative solutions to managing a large student caseload and disseminating student services information
- Maintains systematic and frequent contact with advisees
