This is an applicant pool for part-time temporary faculty in the specific History discipline in the Department of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education. The areas taught in History include Ancient Greek and Roman History, American Experience, History of Africa, History of African Americans, History of American Warfare, History of the Middle East, History of Race and Racism, History of Western Civilization, History of Women in America, History of World Affairs, Medieval Civilization, U.S. History, and Women in Europe.

CSM is actively accepting applications for adjunct positions at all campus locations.

The college also has a significant need for passionate adjunct faculty excited to contribute to our Early College program. Students taking Early College classes are dually enrolled in their local high school while also completing courses at CSM towards a certificate or degree. Early College faculty teach face-to-face classes between the hours of 8:15 am and 2:00 pm, two to four days a week.

CSM is looking for a dynamic individual who can implement the comprehensive mission of a community college by assessing, documenting, and improving student learning through instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching Functions: plan, organize, and instruct courses in the day, evening, or on weekends at the College of Southern Maryland campus, center, or clinical location to which assigned.
  • Teaching Functions: ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled; communicate absences and changes to course schedule to the Course or Program Coordinator.
  • Teaching Functions: maintain high level of subject matter expertise and stimulate enthusiasm for the subjects taught.
  • Teaching Functions: plan each unit or lesson with content and method to make each class meaningful.
  • Teaching Functions: ensure that each program/class contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency.
  • Teaching Functions: teach all classes according to an approved course syllabus and for the required duration.
  • Teaching Functions: study and utilize students' learning styles to facilitate the best teaching and learning situations.
  • Teaching Functions: incorporate instructional technologies in delivery as appropriate.
  • Teaching Functions: maximize the learning opportunities for each student.
  • Teaching Functions: keep students informed about course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
  • Teaching Functions: keep students informed about their progress through prompt grading of papers and other work.
  • Teaching Functions: demonstrate genuine concern for each student through individual student conferences, as needed.
