ResponsibilitiesThe faculty member is responsible for the planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of instruction and related activities to promote student-centered learning. The faculty member is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend at the campus, center, or clinical location to which the faculty member is assigned.
- Teaching responsibilities
:
Primary areas of teaching responsibility include Wellness, Fitness, and Sports;
Teaching functions include planning, organizing, and instructing courses in the day, evening, or weekends at the College of Southern Maryland campus, center, or clinical location to which assigned. - Ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled; communicate absences and changes to the Course or Program Coordinator.
- Maintain high level of subject mastery and stimulate enthusiasm for the subjects taught.
- Plan each unit or lesson with consideration of content and method to ensure meaning for students.
- Ensure that each program/class contains essential curricular components, appropriate content and pedagogy, and currency.
- Teach all classes according to an approved course syllabus and for the required duration.
- Study and utilize students’ learning styles to facilitate the best teaching and learning situations.
- Incorporate instructional technologies in instructional delivery as appropriate; maximize learning opportunities for each student.
- Keep students informed about course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance.
- Provide prompt feedback on student progress through grading of papers and assignments.
- Demonstrate genuine concern for each student through individual student conferences, as needed.
- Administrative Functions
:
File an appropriate course syllabus with the program coordinator and the HEA administrative assistant; ensure each course section is web-enhanced; utilize college online resources (home page, syllabi posting, grade book, etc.). - Use the college Group Wise email system for professional communication with students, faculty, division chair, and other college personnel with a response time of 48-72 hours.
- Keep the Course or Program Coordinator informed of any student concerns or conduct violations within 48 hours of the incident.
- Maintain accurate scholastic records, including attendance records; conduct class evaluations and other college evaluations as policy requires.
- Submit academic reports and other documentation in a timely manner; attend all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development, orientation activities, and other meetings as called by college leadership.
- Become thoroughly familiar with all college policies and procedures and comply with them; become familiar with the Faculty Handbook; convey college-related information to students in a timely manner as requested by college officials.
- Program Improvement
:
Participate in program and curriculum review and development and student learning outcomes assessment initiatives; recommend textbooks and instructional materials including classroom and laboratory equipment to the Course Coordinator, Program Coordinator, Division Chair or designee; provide suggestions for curriculum improvement aligned with college objectives.
