Located 45 minutes from the Nation’s Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is a two-time Aspen Award-winning institution (top 15% of Community Colleges) with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. CSM is among America’s top 100 producers of Minority Associate Degrees in twenty categories, according to Diverse Issues in Higher Education.
This is an applicant pool for part-time temporary faculty in Early Childhood Development. The discipline taught in this area is Early Childhood Development. CSM is accepting applications for adjunct positions at all campus locations. The college also has a significant need for passionate adjunct faculty excited to contribute to our Early College program. Early College faculty teach face-to-face classes between the hours of 8:15 am and 2:00 pm, two to four days a week.
CSM is looking for a dynamic individual who can implement the comprehensive mission of a community college by assessing, documenting, and improving student learning through instruction. ResponsibilitiesMinimum required duties include the following essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations:
Teaching Functions- Plan, organize, and instruct courses in the day, evening, or on weekends at the College of Southern Maryland campus, center, or clinical location to which assigned.
- Ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled; communicate all absences and changes to course schedule to the Course or Program Coordinator.
- Maintain a high level of subject matter expertise and stimulate enthusiasm for those subjects.
- Plan each unit or lesson with content and method to make each class meaningful.
- Ensure that each program/class contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency.
- Teach all classes according to an approved course syllabus and for the required duration.
- Study and utilize students' learning styles to facilitate the best teaching and learning situations.
- Incorporate instructional technologies in instructional delivery as appropriate.
- Maximize the learning opportunities for each student.
- Keep students informed about course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
- Provide prompt feedback and grading to keep students informed about their progress.
- Demonstrate genuine concern for each student through individual conferences as needed.
- File an appropriate course syllabus for each course taught with the appropriate program coordinator and the HEA administrative assistant.
- Ensure that each course section is web-enhanced.
- Utilize available college online resources (home page, syllabi posting, grade book, etc.).
- Use the college Group Wise email system for professional communication with students, faculty, division chair, and other college personnel with a response time of 48-72 hours.
- Inform the Course or Program Coordinator of any student concerns or conduct violations within 48 hours of the incident.
- Maintain accurate and complete scholastic records, including attendance records.
- Conduct class evaluations and complete other college evaluations in accordance with college policy.
- Submit academic reports and other documentation in a timely manner and when appropriate.
- Attend all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by college leadership.
