Position:
School Bus Driver / School Bus Attendant & Driver (Substitute)

Dual-Merged (2526-01) – the district offers a School Bus Driver Trainee program for candidates who do not currently possess the required licensure. Trainees will receive on‑the‑job training to become licensed School Bus Drivers.

Responsibilities
  • Drive a school bus along designated routes, picking up and discharging students according to schedules, while ensuring safety and compliance with traffic laws.
  • Perform regular safety inspections of buses (interior, exterior, engine) and maintain related records.
  • Assist students and passengers with loading/unloading, including medically fragile and special needs students.
  • Maintain bus cleanliness and operational condition, including washing, sweeping, refueling and basic maintenance.
  • Maintain order on the bus, enforce discipline policies, and advise passengers on appropriate behavior.
  • Respond to emergency situations, administer first aid as needed, and conduct emergency evacuations per guidelines.
  • Communicate with district staff, parents, and guardians to resolve transportation issues.
  • Prepare and submit required logs and reports (pre‑trip, field trips, accidents, incidents, inspections).
  • Operate two‑way radios for bus‑to‑bus and bus‑to‑base communication.
Schedule & Compensation

Positions are 5‑6 hours/day (split shift) during the school year; 206 paid days. All new hires are offered advanced step salary placement to Step C: $25.50/hour.

Applicants will be evaluated against stated qualifications; the most qualified applicants will be invited to a written merit exam. An eligibility list will be established and remain valid for up to one year.

Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to a high school diploma or GED plus sufficient training and experience to demonstrate knowledge and abilities listed above.

  • Successful passage of the district’s job‑related proficiency test
  • California School Bus Driver’s Certificate
  • Valid California Class B Driver License with P/S endorsements
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency
  • Medical Examiner’s Certificate
  • K‑4 report issued within last 30 days

  • Safe and defensive driving practices

  • Applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes and regulations

Additional Requirements

The district must conduct a full query of the Commercial Driver’s License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse database before hiring anyone for safety‑sensitive duties. Candidates must provide consent and be registered with the Clearinghouse. See (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..
