Overview
Spend your workdays at the lake instead of behind a desk! HELIX WATER DISTRICT is looking for a part-time Assistant Maintenance Ranger to help maintain the cleanliness, safety and overall enjoyment of our campground and recreation areas at Lake Jennings. This hands-on position combines facility maintenance, visitor assistance and patrol duties, making it ideal for someone who enjoys variety, responsibility and working outdoors in a team-oriented setting.

The Details:
Work schedule is typically 16-25 hours per week including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Various shifts include the following:
- Sunday - Friday between 7 a.m.
- 5 p.m. - Tuesday & Wednesday between 7 a.m.
- 5 p.m. & 1:45 - 10:15 p.m.
Our Assistant Maintenance Ranger supports daily campground and lake operations through routine cleaning, maintenance and landscaping of campsites, restrooms, facilities and equipment. Responsibilities include patrolling the lake and surrounding areas to ensure safety and security, addressing visitor questions and concerns, investigating complaints or unusual activity, and coordinating with local law enforcement when needed. The role also involves collecting fees, celling and tracking camping and fishing permits, maintaining attendance and activity records, performing basic building and dock repairs, and completing landscape and trail maintenance - all while following safe work practices and providing excellent customer service to guests.
Qualified Candidates Will Have The Following
- Training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school or GED equivalent and a minimum of one year of experience in maintenance, recreation or lake operation.
- A valid Class C California driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the district’s vehicle insurance policy.
- Possession of or ability to obtain valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification within six months and maintain valid certification thereafter.
