Requirements
The Vice President of Mortgage Lending provides leadership for all mortgage functions, including origination, underwriting, processing, and servicing. Develop policies and long-term strategies to maintain a high-quality loan portfolio while navigating changing interest rates and market demands.
Key Responsibilities:- Strategic Planning:
Develop and execute lending plans, product promotions, and pricing strategies to meet annual growth and profitability goals. - Operations Management:
Direct and monitor the entire mortgage lifecycle, from lead generation through post-closing and servicing, ensuring optimal efficiency. - Compliance & Risk:
Ensure all activities adhere to federal and state regulations, including CFPB, TRID, HMDA, and NCUA guidelines. - Team Leadership:
Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing team of loan officers and support staff; establish accountability metrics and a coaching culture. - Portfolio Management:
Analyze trends, default rates, and market conditions to make recommendations for improvements to the loan portfolio. - Member & Community Relations:
Maintain strong relationships with members and key external partners, such as realtors and builders, to drive referral business.
Experience:
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, or a related field is required work experience in lieu of education will be considered.
- Licensure: Active NMLS registration is mandatory.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of secondary market guidelines (Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac), loan origination systems (LOS), and underwriting software.
Soft Skills: Strong strategic thinking, interpersonal negotiation, and the ability to solve complex member issues tactfully.
- Experience: A minimum of 5-10 years of progressive experience in the financial services industry.
- Management: A minimum of 3–7 in a senior leadership or departmental management role within a financial institution.
- Specialization: Proven track record in mortgage operations, risk assessment, and successful team-building in a credit union or banking environment.
