JOB DESCRIPTION EAST OTERO SCHOOL DISTRICT SUMMARY
The school counseling program provides a comprehensive, developmental program addressing academic, career and personal/social development. The school counselors are professional school advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Works with students on an individual or small group basis in facilitating academic, social, personal and career development
- Designs and implements counseling curriculum
- Collaborates with staff, administration and parents for student success
- Utilizes existing data to advocate for student achievement
- Supports students in discovering and developing special abilities
- Provides support and educational information to parents
- Collaborates with parents to foster positive school/home relationships
- Adheres to school and district discipline policy
- Participates in the orientation of new students and staff to the building
- Collaborates with community referral agencies
- Supervision of students as requested by the building principal
- Assigned to appropriate professional learning communities (committees) for the enhancement of student learning
- Assists with CSAP and other testing
- Member of the East Otero District Crises Team
- Member of the Counseling Advisor Board
- Maintains student records and submits required reports
- Perform other duties assigned by the building principal

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- Masters Degree in counseling from an accredited college/university
- Colorado Department of Education - Special Services License – Endorsement - Counseling
- Ability to read and comprehend short correspondence and memos
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively with administrators, staff and parents
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with several variables in various situations
- Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to operate a computer with related software
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies

- Salary and fringe benefits to be determined by the East Otero School District as indicated by the adopted Certified Staff Salary Schedule
- Performance evaluation will be completed by the building principal per board policy
