Founded in 1909 and affiliated with the Episcopal Church, The Bishop's School is an independent, all gender college-preparatory school for 800 students in grades six through twelve. The School is located on a historic campus in the heart of La Jolla, just 10 miles north of downtown San Diego. With a student-teacher ratio of approximately 9 to 1, Bishop's is known for academic, artistic, and athletic excellence while celebrating character development, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Last year's applicant pool drew from 72 zip codes and 168 middle and high schools throughout San Diego County and beyond. Fifty-one percent of the student population self-identify as students of color. Additionally, over $4 million in need-based grants is awarded annually.

The Bishop's School seeks an Editorial and Print Content Manager with immediate start.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Editorial and Print Content Manager (EPCM) provides strategic and hands-on support of all aspects of the School's marketing communications efforts. The EPCM supports all campus departments and initiatives by producing creative and unique print and digital content that authentically reflects the institutional brand and message and positions Bishop's at the forefront in our local independent school market.

The EPCM holds primary responsibility for print content production across an array of media including the School's website and supports the social media efforts of various constituencies on campus including parent volunteer groups, student organizations, and class year groups. The EPCM also supports Mar Com colleagues to provide photographic and video coverage of School events.

Along with outstanding writing skills and the ability to effectively articulate the mission, vision and values of the School, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of professionalism, commitment to excellence, and understanding of mission driven organizations and work, combined with a customer service orientation in engaging with colleagues, students, parents and guardians, and the external community.

This is a 12-month per year in-person position.

Responsibilities Include:

External Marketing and Communications
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing & Communications to develop and execute a strategic, comprehensive communications plan to support admissions, academics, advancement, athletics, arts, alumni engagement and other campus initiatives.
  • Assist with advertising efforts promoting School initiatives throughout the year, including admissions key dates and events as well as donor opportunities
  • Research, conduct interviews and write professional stories and news articles for Bishop's magazine, parent and alumni publications and the School's website.
  • Edit articles for Bishop's magazine, parent and alumni publications.
  • Review and provide editorial comments for student-generated publications, when requested.
  • Review and edit departmental and faculty communications when requested.
  • Provide writing and editing support for weekly e-newsletters and School push-page communications
  • Manage content on the website, internal resource board and public digital bulletin board on a weekly basis, and periodically assess web content. This includes written content as well as video and image selection.
  • Ensure that the School's brand, voice and mission are reflected in all collateral materials
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communication tools through market research, data collection and analysis. Measure performance of the School's website by using tools such as Google Analytics
  • Report conclusions and recommendations for improvement of strategic communications
  • Help manage emergency and/or crisis communications as needed
  • Assist with media outreach
Internal Communications
  • Collaborate with School staff to design brochures, flyers, programs and other marketing materials using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and/or Canva.
  • Coordinate work with outside graphic designers
  • Coordinate mailings, printed materials, invitations and other print projects as needed.
