Responsibilities- Provides a safe and therapeutic environment to all patients and staff while supervising Correctional Officers and Correctional Sergeants.
- Supervises Correctional Officers and Correctional Sergeants.
- Maintains documentation on job performance, and recommends discipline to supervisor as needed.
- Prepares and approves timesheets and leave time for correctional Sergeants.
- Completes performance evaluations for Correctional Officers and Correctional Sergeants.
- Acts as Shift Supervisor when designated by Captain.
- Facilitates roll call and departmental meetings; ensures staffing complement is met; coordinates facility operations during emergencies; conducts inspections of the physical plant after emergencies; supervises transportation of patients.
- Responds to and assists in emergency situations, ensuring appropriate intervention techniques are utilized.
- Addresses and resolves problems and conflicts related to staff and patient needs.
- Manages and supervises on-the-job training for new officers.
- Interprets policy and procedure; teaches staff how to implement agency policy and ensure adherence to policy and procedure.
- Conducts ongoing trainings as needed.
- Serves on panel for security interviews as designated by Shift Supervisor.
- Assists Captain and supports Shift Supervisor in administration of security functions.
- Completes incident reports and reports maintenance or housekeeping issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Skills in teamwork, attention to detail, ability to work under pressure and strong communication skills.
- Must be willing and able to work any shift.

Minimum RequirementsEDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR
SKILLS:
Must have two years of experience in corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice, social work dealing with the rehabilitation of offenders or in the supervision and care of young adults (ages 12-21) in a residential, correctional, group home, detention or day treatment program or any combination of the above.
Substitute EDUCATION for
EXPERIENCE:
An Associate's degree from a college or university in corrections, criminal justice, law enforcement or a related field will substitute for six months of the required experience. A bachelor's degree from a college or university in corrections, criminal justice, law enforcement or a related major field will substitute for one year of required experience. For the Department of Juvenile Justice, successful completion of the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy or equivalent training program approved by the Commissioner of the Department of Juvenile Justice will substitute for one year of the required experience.
