Job Description

Our client is a large World Class Tier I automotive supplier with over 20,000 employees. This successful company is in the process of filling a Packaging Engineering position in their plant located in the Cottondale, AL area. The successful candidate will have 3 to 5 years experience working as a Packaging Engineer, or similar within a high paced preferably Tier I automotive environment.

• Plans and designs product packaging to ensure product integrity and appeal under varying shipping and display conditions.
• Develops packaging for a company's products, with the goal of making the package both functional and cost-effective.
• They choose the materials, methods and machinery that go into the production of packaging supplies, and they develop production methods that eliminate waste and unnecessary spending.
• Packaging engineers are responsible for choosing packaging materials and developing production methods in order to create packaging that is not only practical, but also sustainable and cost-effective.
• Tests, analyzes, and selects materials for packaging based on durability and cost effectiveness.
• Helps to ensure packaging complies with all regulations and customer requirements;
  Knowledge and understanding of packaging design validation standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.), drafting and specification standards is essential.
• Combine aspects of industrial design and engineering, materials science, logistics and marketing to develop packaging solutions for products and foods, such as cartons, boxes, bottles, adhesives and other containers.

BS/BA in related field; 3 - 5 years of experience in industrial or consumer packaging.

• Must be able to use a multimeter to assist with troubleshooting. Ability to read and write English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Creativity - as a packaging engineer, developing innovative, interesting, and functional packaging is important, and job applicants need the creativity to come up with new ideas that match the brief.
• Problem-solving skills - packaging engineers troubleshoot issues as they arise, finding solutions to packaging or design problems so that the final product is effective.
• Attention to detail - keen attention to detail is important for packaging engineers, since overlooking issues or flaws could result in a suboptimal final design.
• Communication skills - communication is key to this job, as packaging engineers work as part of a team and must be able to explain their ideas to colleagues and clients.
• Technical skills - packaging engineers work with computer software and design programs on a regular basis, so they must be technically minded and able to quickly pick up new software.
