Job Overview

The Ameri Corps Senior Crew Leader will mentor and educate within Wis Corps’ Crew Program and the Ameri Corps Crew Leader Development Program. This position is designed for experienced conservation leaders who support key conservation partnerships and build leadership capacity through hands‐on projects across the Upper Midwest.

Position Details

Service Site: La Crosse, Wisconsin with project sites throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest.

Service Dates:

  • Summer Session: April 7th – August 19th, 2026 (20 weeks; 1200-Hour Service Term)
  • Mid-Season Break: August 20th – September 7th (2 weeks, unpaid)
  • Fall Session: September 8th – November 14th, 2026 (10 weeks; 900-Hour Service Term)
Benefits & Housing
  • Biweekly living stipend of $675 per week for 30 weeks (totaling $20,250)
  • Education Award of approximately $8,800 upon successful completion

Housing is provided in a variety of settings including single-occupancy tents, dormitory-style indoor settings, summer camps, or rental houses.

Responsibilities

The Senior Crew Leader will:

  • Complete a 1.5-month training and onboarding period including obtaining necessary certifications (e.g., chainsaw safety, pesticide applicator, vehicle training, wilderness first aid/first responder).
  • Lead a roving NPS-assigned crew during the summer session, mentoring four Developing Leaders and managing project logistics, crew safety, and day-to-day activities on restoration projects.
  • Transition into a Roving Support Leader during the fall session to provide technical support and check-ins with crews, manage independent travel, and assist with project goals.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years’ experience with a conservation corps, including at least one season as a crew leader.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate vehicles.
  • U.S. citizenship, national status, or legal permanent residency.
  • Willingness to work in challenging outdoor conditions and adhere to sustainable, Leave No Trace practices.
