Prabir Pal   received his     Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from Institute of Physics (IOP), an autonomous Research Institute under Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) from Homi Bhabha National Institute, India in 2007. He did 1  st   Post-Doctoral Research at the Universität Augsburg, Germany from 2007 to 2009 in Prof. J. Mannhart Group, worked on oxide heterostructure using molecular beam epitaxial (MBE) growth and Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) and photoemission spectroscopy.

Thereafter, he did 2  nd   Post-Doctoral Research at the Ångströmlaboratoriet, Department of Physics and Materials Science, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden from February 2009 to January 2011. He worked at Uppsala University on MBE growth, Photoemission spectroscopy (Max Lab Synchrotron facility at Sweden), semiconductor device microfabrication, 2-Dimensional electron gas in oxide heterostructure.

In 2011, he joined CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi, India, in core area in MBE lighting devices project in   2D Physics and Quantum Resistance Division  . Dr. Pal has well-acknowledged expertise in core level spectroscopic techniques and high-kinetic energy photoelectron spectroscopy for characterization of functional interfaces. The 2-Dimensional electron gas at the interface of oxide heterostructure work has received significant attention (couple of PRB) and MBE work was highlighted in nature India (10.1038/nindia.
2018.76 Published online 18 June 2018). In 2019, he joined CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute, Kolkata, in   2D Materials Group  . His current research interests include development of indigenous optical sensor for various applications and hybrid heterostructure devices based on the integration of 2D TMDC materials. His work has led to a number of research collaborations across Europe and publication of 85 SCI journal articles.
